[Biography]
Dr. Utak CHUNG is currently a Distinguished Professor at Kyung Hee University in Korea. He teaches Global Citizenship Education and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

From 2012 to March 2019, Dr. Utak CHUNG served as the 4th and 5th Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), a UNESCO Category 2 Centre based in Seoul, Korea.

As the Director of APCEIU, he contributed to the adoption of Global Citizenship Education within UNESCO Education 2030 as well as UN SDG 4.7.

Before assuming the role of APCEIU’s Director, Dr. Chung held positions as Assistant Secretary General and Director of Strategic Programs Divisions at the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, where he began his professional career in 1982. Additionally, he served as the Associate Expert for the International Commission on Education for the Twenty First Century at UNESCO Headquarters from 1993 to 1995. He was also a Visiting Scholar at Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, University of California, San Diego from 2000 to 2002.
Since August 2022, he has been serving as the Senior Advisor for Global Partnership Education (GPE) in Korea.

He published a book called Global Citizenship Education and SDGs (in Korean) in 2022.
